M. G. Junior parents tournament
Meadow Gardens currently has some junior members who have the potential to exceed in the competitive side of golf. Many can achieve a full or partial ride scholarship in Universities with a chance to make it to a professional level later in their career. The world junior golf association assesses points for each tournament with a similar rating system with the professional world golf association. Canadian tournaments normally carry a lower rating to American tournaments due to the strength of the fields. Junior golfers need the American exposure to increase their world rankings along with recognition with American Universities. The American Universities are more likely to offer a full ride to their teams along with a full staff to prepare their golfers for a professional career.
We cannot sponsor the junior golfers directly. Any donations/sponsorships directed to the golfers can compromise their amateur status along with their scholarship eligibility. However, the B.C. golf association along with Golf Canada have confirmed we are able to help the golfer’s parents for their expenses to travel.
The west coast tournaments are mostly concentrated in the California/Arizona areas. The cost for parents to travel to these tournaments is a heavy price for most families which prohibits some golfers from competing in many of these tournaments which compromises the golfer’s world ranking and exposure.
This year, we are aiding the parents of Euna Han. Euna has been a junior member of Meadow Gardens for several years now and would play to a plus 4 (3.4 index) on the white tees.
