Don Fritz, a beloved father, partner, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at the McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge, BC, at the age of 79.
Don was born the first born child to parents Helen (nee Thurlow) and Emil Fritz, in Greenwood, BC. It was in Greenwood that he grew up. In his mid-teenage years he went on a cross-country adventure and spent time in Beechy, Saskatchewan, working odd jobs and spending time with extended family. In his early 20’s, Don joined the Canadian Air Force, where he studied electronics and became a Radar Technician. Don returned to the Kootenays, living in Greenwood and then Grand Forks, before moving to Vancouver in his mid-20’s, with his new bride Carol. Ultimately Langley became his home, where he raised his family and spent the remainder of his life. He worked in the road construction and paving industry for many years, until his retirement.
Don was an avid sportsman; playing hockey in his teenage and young adult years, an avid golfer, and a huge fan follower of football and golf. He was thoughtful and generous to his family and loyal to his friends. He was strong-willed with a good sense of humour.
Don will be greatly missed by his devoted partner of 17 years, Jo-Ann Fedoruk, children Dawn (Ken) and Tyson (Nicole), brothers Glen Fritz, William Macnab, Robert Macnab, and sister Noreen (Frederick) Milstead, his beloved grandchildren, extended family and numerous friends.
Don was predeceased by his parents Emil in 1945 and Helen in 2005, step-father Norman Macnab in 1999, his brother Stanley Macnab in 1974, his sister Muriel (Jacob) Smith and sister-in-law Heather, both in 2016, as well as the mother of his children, Carol Bouchard (nee Matthews), in 2016.
