Norm Stanley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest of four. Growing up he was an avid baseball and hockey player. He worked for CP Rail in Winnipeg as a clerk but after visiting Vancouver at age 19 and landing a job at Woodward’s he quickly moved and made Vancouver home. He worked up the ranks spending many years as a manager and buyer, travelling the world, then as a store manager until retirement at age 58. In his spare time he loved to ski and golf. He looked forward to retirement so he could golf full time, which he did for many years, first at Vancouver Golf Course where he had been a member since the 1950’s, then at Meadow Gardens where he became a member along with his wife Evelyn in August of 1996. He was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Royal Order of Scotland and the Gizeh Shriners. Norm met his first wife Marie in Winnipeg and married her in 1952. His daughter Daryl was born in 1956 but he lost Marie a few days later. He remarried in 1959 to Evelyn and had daughter Karen and son Craig (deceased in 2000). He had four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Norm continued to golf until Oct 2017 when he was admitted to hospital. He passed away 5 months later at the age of 91.
